14 Sabah schools affected by HFMD – deputy minister

KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Education Minister Teoh Nie Ching said that 241 schools nationwide were affected by the Hand, Foot and Mouth disease (HFMD).

Out of the total, 14 were schools in Sabah comprising six pre-schools and eight primary schools.

She also said that six schools were still closed nationwide, four of which are located in Sabah.

In addition, Teoh also said that the disease affected 3,000 students nationwide.
In Sabah, the number of students infected are from pre-schools (20 students), primary schools (38 students) and secondary schools (12 students).

She added that although the disease seemed to be slowing down, she urged everyone to continue keeping guard.

She also said that if there were more than one student contracting the disease, then the class where the infection started must be closed.
