BANJARMASIN, S Kalimantan: Residents of Batakan Beach, Tanah Laut, South Kalimantan, are busy running jellyfish export businesses to meet overseas market share in the last four years, Antaranews Kalsel reported.

One of the managers of the jellyfish export production house, Bawi, in Batakan Beach on Sunday said that the business was busy after the sale route opened to Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and China.

“Jellyfish export business has been four years ago, but its production fluctuates according to the jellyfish catches obtained by local fishermen,” he said.

If the season catches a lot, the production of jellyfish export business houses is also crowded. But because now the high-wave season many fishermen are afraid of going to sea so that the production is little.

When catching a lot, jellyfish production can be hundreds of tons per day, but now only tens of tons per day per production house.

Based on records around Batakan Beach, which is also a tourist area, there are 13 jellyfish production houses owned by investors, who employ dozens of men and women.
