LONG SAN, Baram: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau advised parents to practise and inculcate in their children the habit of good personal hygiene and cleanliness to prevent diseases.
Dennis gave this advice in view of the current outbreak of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) in the country.
He revealed that he has not received any report on HFMD in his constituency or Baram in general.
“We in the rural areas are not immune or protected against diseases and should not take things for granted.
“Children are precious gifts. Parents must care and protect them to ensure they live and grow up healthy regardless of the difficulties faced, especially those too young to be in school and after schooling hours,” he said.
On the same note, Dennis urged rural clinics in his constituency to continue going beyond the call of duty by organising regular programmes to improve knowledge on personal and environmental health.
“We are aware that this has been one of the long-term strategies undertaken by clinics and health personnel to combat communicable and non-communicable diseases among rural folks,” he added.
Dennis was making his rounds and visited 21 longhouses in his constituency while leading staff of the PublicWorks Department (JKR) Miri on a site visit and physical survey of Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects in Telang Usan.
