SMC to host Sibu International Dance Festival

SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council will host a five-day Sibu International Dance Festival beginning Aug 21.

In a press conference last Friday night, organising chairman Chen Ing Kuong of Hornland Dance Troupe said 23 troupes with over 200 members from 15 countries will be taking part in the biggest festival since it started in 2012.

“The participating troupes this year are from China – Beijing, Guangzhou and Hunan; Ethiopia, India, Bali, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines, South Korea, Sri Langka, Taiwan, USA and Thailand – Bangkok and Chiang Mai.”

He said the presentation will include modern and cultural dances, dances with nature theme, street dances, drama dances and others which have never been performed in Malaysia.

“An elderly troupe with members aged 64 and above from Guangzhou will also be performing.”

He added six troupes including those from India, US, Japan, Mexico, Sri Langka will be returning to perform at the festival.

“The programme for this dance festival includes three nights of dance concert, a forum, a workshop and outdoor performances to be held at Kutian Garden and the open space at Sibu Central Market.”
