10 schools from S’wak identified as having students involved in drug abuse – Voon

MIRI: A total of 10 schools from Sarawak are listed and identified as having students involved in drug abuse.

Political Secretary to Member of Parliament for Miri, Voon Shiak Ni said they are among 400 schools nationwide that had been identified by the Education Ministry where their students were involved in drug abuse.

“Miri is one of the areas whereby schools were identified to have students involved in drug abuse. Our Member of Parliament for Miri service centre had also received complaints from parents who came in with the drug abuse problems involving their children, ” Voon said during a press conference today.

According to her, parents told the staff at the service centre that their children would resort to stealing things from the house and trade the things with drugs if they cannot get cash from their parents.

She disclosed that things like gold, jewellery and watches are the most targeted to be stolen by these children.

“Their children became violent at home and it was hell for the whole family,” she disclosed further.

Therefore, Voon who is also Pakatan Harapan National Women chief for Sarawak Affairs said the Member of Parliament for Miri service centre has decided to do some intervention programmes and will work with Anti-drugs Agency (AADK) and the police and the schools involved.
