KUCHING: There should be more programmes slated for unearthing talents in entertainment from all over Sarawak.

According to Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan lawan, events such as ‘Kuching Got Talent’ serve as the best platforms to show what Sarawak has to offer to the industry.

“We have proven ourselves – we have many talents in the entertainment industry; in fact, they are among the best in the business,” he spoke at the finale of ‘Kuching Got Talent 2018’ in MBKS auditorium here on Sunday night. Snowdan, who represented Deputy Chief Minister  Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan at the event, listed a number of Sarawakians such as Hafiz Suip, Bob AF and Dayang Nurfaizah as among those few who had made it big in the Malaysian showbusiness.

In this respect, he believed that there should be constant search for new talents, especially among the younger generation.

“Platforms, such as the event tonight, present the opportunity for us to seek (new talents) and shape them to become stars who can bring pride to Sarawak’s name, and go international like Miri-born Zee Avi,” he said.

Snowdan also believed that it is crucial for Sarawakians to show to the outsiders that they are not just ‘backyard talents’, but also performers who are just as talented as – if not better than – those from Peninsular Malaysia.

The assistant minister later announced an allocation of RM20,000 to the event organiser.
