KOTA KINABALU: The Ministry of Local Government and Housing is planning to work with the Energy Commission and Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) to conduct inspections on electrical installations on new building developments.

Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Jaujan Sambakong said the inspection would involve all types of buildings, including commercial and government buildings.

He said the inspection would focus mostly on new developments, though old buildings would also be checked as well.

Jaujan said he was concerned not only about the installation of electrical wiring and equipment in new buildings, but also existing developments.

As such, he said he planned to initiate a programme to ensure electrical installation work on existing buildings was fit for occupancy.

Jaujan said this when gracing the Sabah Electrical Association’s (SEA) 21st anniversary dinner celebration on Sunday.

Meanwhile, SEA president Leslie Jong said the committee would focus more on training programmes especially for school leavers from certificate, diploma and degree levels.

He said the training programme was set to instill further knowledge of the actual working environment and create work opportunity for school leavers.

“We have already started this programme with Yayasan Sabah Technical College and we look forward to do the same with all other technical schools in Sabah such as the Polytechnic College, Likas Technical College and even Universiti Malaysia Sabah.”
