MIRI: Jalur Gemilang is a symbol of national sovereignty and needs to be flown in the right way so as not to affect the image of the country, especially in the eyes of foreigners.

Speaking at the launch of Miri-level ‘Kibar Jalur Gemilang’ event organised by the Information Department here yesterday, Miri MP Dr Michael Teo Yu Keng said the raising and distribution of the national flag is very important and is one of the ways to express love and patriotism for the country.

“It is a programme to celebrate freedom, unity and diversity in Malaysia and this spirit will inspire and nurture the nation in promoting peace and harmony for all Malaysians to live as one big family.

“It is not wrong for the people to fly the Jalur Gemilang at their office, home or vehicle at any time as a sign of love for the country and it is a symbol of the nation’s sovereignty which must be respected,” he said, while encouraging everyone to promote the ‘Merdeka’ campaign and any related activities through social media.

This year’s National Day theme ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku’ (Love My Malaysia) urges everyone to instil love for their multi-racial country and to live in harmony, equality and unity.

Also present were Miri/Bintulu information officer Aba Sam, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Women national vice chairwoman Voon Shiak Ni and Rose Edward Tarang representing Miri Resident.
