MIRI: The Wisma Wanita Training Centre (WWTC) has provided 13,802 women with skills training as of last month.

Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus said by attending such skills courses, the women could generate their own income.

“This is part of the government’s efforts to boost the economy of women and to provide cottage industry skills and knowledge to them,” she said during the Mega WWTC Programme @ DUN at the Bekenu Community Hall on Monday. A total of 284 participants took part in the two-day course.

Rosey said the mega programme was first introduced in 2015 to allow women beyond Kuching District to experience the same training offered at Wisma Wanita.

She said the Women and Family Department held courses in state and parliamentary constituencies based on the requests and needs of local women.

As of last April, 5,776 women have participated in the Mega WWTC Programme @ DUN including from Lundu, Dalat, Bekenu, Marudi, Bukit Kota, Kapit, Tellian, Sibu, Sarikei, Sebuyau, Tekajong, and Betong.
