KUCHING: An assistant engineer of the State Rural Water Supply Department today pleaded not guilty before a Special Corruption Court here to six charges of abuse of power.
Jamal Abdullah, 48, was arrested yesterday after his statement was recorded at the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission office here.
Judge Nixon Kennedy Kumbong released the accused on a RM25,000 bail in two sureties after fixing Sept 24 for further mention of the case.
Nixon set trial hearing on Oct 29 until Nov 2, this year.
The court also ordered the accused to surrender his international passport to the court.
Jamal was alleged to have abused his power and illegally gained RM40,000 from settlements of six drainage system maintenance projects in Bau, Lundu and Sematan by using a company belonging to his wife and brothers-in-law in 2016.
The offence is provided for by Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission Act 2009.
