Suspect in Tiong Hua Road murder further remanded

The suspect leaves the court after being ordered to be further remanded.

SIBU: The suspect in the murder of a civil servant in Tiong Hua Road on Aug 2 was yesterday ordered by a magistrate’s court here to be further remanded for seven days.

The suspect was first remanded for seven days in hospital on Aug 8.

He is being investigated for the alleged killing of Nurnia Azalea Priscilla Edward, 26, at her rented house in Tiong Hua Road.

A post mortem conducted last Friday night stated she died of skull fractures and internal bleeding. She also had severe injuries on her face, head and neck.

Nuria was found dead with her legs and arms tied, in her room.

After the murder, the suspect is believed to have taken Nurnia’s handphone and brought it to a shop here to unlock it.

The handphone shop owner said the phone had a photograph of its owner in it looking similar to the murdered woman.

Earlier newspaper reports said the suspect downed weed killer when the police arrested him at his longhouse in Julau on Aug 7.

The police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for a mandatory death sentence on conviction.
