KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Deputy Vice Chancellor (Students Affairs and Alumni) Professor Dr Ismail Ali has urged the public to stop making speculations on the social media on a crime incident in the university recently.
He denied allegations that were made on the social media that he was covering things up.
“If I was covering things up, how could the case go to the police and now to the court?”
He added that the university acknowledged the crime that had transpired and had not covered it up.
Dr Ismail also said that the speculations would only disrupt the ongoing investigations and affect the victim as well as the accused.
He also mentioned that the case was already brought to the court.
As for the victim, Dr Ismail said that her parents had decided to bring her back to West Malaysia and she had stopped studying at the university.
He added that UMS bore all the expenses of the parents and the student, including arranging for her to get a place to study in West Malaysia.
“However, I understand that she is now taking a break,” he said.
UMS had said earlier that it would not compromise with any of its staff or students who are involved in any form of misconduct, especially those with criminal intent.
Its Strategic Management and Corporate Communication Centre said that it would make sure that those who committed any wrongdoings will face the consequences of their action.
The centre also stressed that the suspect is no longer an employee of UMS and stressed that the UMS management will ensure that any wrongdoings by its staff will not go unpunished.
