MUKAH: The Fire and Rescue Services Department (Bomba) had difficulties in putting out a blaze in a peat soil area at Kampung Kut Daro here yesterday here because the fire occurred underground at a depth of five feet.

According to the Bomba Zone 4 head, Misran Bisara, they had tried their best to put out the fire.

“We admit that we encountered difficulties in putting out the fire because it was underground and all over the place,” he said yesterday.

He said it was the second time the fire occurred at the same area and they had sent out four firemen to monitor the situation.

“When the temperature got higher, the trees caught fire,” he said.

However, he said the incident was not that serious and the fire was under control.

On the haze, he said it was getting a little bit better because of the change in weather.

“There are no more hotspots, unlike two to three days ago,” he pointed out.

Over the last two days, Mukah recorded the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) compared to other areas in the state.
