KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) would not be dissolved yet as its services were still needed.

“No. It will not (be disbanded).

“They think they have come to the end but I haven’t decided.

“I never said this (CEP’s tenure is) 100 days; I still need their services,” he told reporters after launching the Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur (CVSKL), one of the region’s first private cardiac and vascular specialist hospitals here yesterday.

Dr Mahathir, however, said he was uncertain how long the CEP would remain to assist the government.

“I don’t know (how long CEP will remain); I think until we solve all the problems.

“I myself cannot do that kind of work,” he added.

The CEP was formed on May 12 by Dr Mahathir to act as an advisor on economic, financial and other matters. Its lifespan of 100 days was widely reported since its inception. — Bernama
