Golden outing for taekwondo exponents in Indonesia

The taekwondo team during the Indosat Taekwondo (WTF) Open Tournament 2018 in Pontianak, Indonesia.

KUCHING: The six-member team from Kuching Taekwondo & Self-Defence Club had a good outing at the Indosat Taekwondo (WTF) Open Tournament 2018 hold in Pontianak, Indonesia recently.

According to the state technical chairman Tan Check Joon, the exponents were Leonard Lee, Anuwath Sarat, Zara Nur
Zafirah Mohd Yusof, Phyllis Chin Ying Shen and Farah Nabila Maddarus from Satok training centre.

Led by its coach Terence Ma, the team bagged six gold and one bronze medals in the poomsae event.

Four exponents – Lee, Anuwath, Chin and Farah – were named best athlete in their respective categories.

Lee won the gold in the senior male category while Anuwath bagged the honour in cadet male category.

Chin and Farah won the junior male and senior female categories respectively.

Other individual gold medallist was Zara Nur in the Cadet female category.

Lee and Farah also took the gold medal in the Mix pair senior category while Anuwath and Zara Nur won the Mix pair cadet category.

Meanwhile, about 250 young exponents from Kuching Taekwondo & Self-Defence Club (WTF) took part in the Kuching Festival CASH Martial Arts Display 2018 hosted by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) at the Sarawak Hockey Stadium recently.

Selected to represent the Persatuan Taekwondo Negeri Sarawak, the team was headed by its vice presidents Then Yit Fui and Hadysyam Junaidi, and assisted by coach Tan Cheng Qiang.
