Two ‘Datuks’ claim trial to cheating businessman of RM90,000

KUANTAN: Two businessmen with the title ‘Datuk’ claimed trial yesterday in separate magistrate’s court here, on three counts of cheating a businessman of RM90,000 three years ago.

Muhammad Adam Rao Abdullah, 47, and Syed Mohammad Faiz Syed Azemmant, 30, were released on RM30,000 and RM15,000 bail in one surety respectively, and their cases are set for mention on Sept 27.

Muhammad Adam Rao pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Nurunaim Abdullah to cheating a businessman Tee Boon Hua, 59, regarding a bauxite and laterite mining deal which did not exist on the land belonging to the Pahang Islamic Religious Council secretary.

The offences were allegedly committed at two separate locations in the district, namely Jalan Abdul Aziz Public Bank and the office of Mohd Najid & Partners in Jalan Bukit Ubi on June 10 and 19, 2015 as well as on July 10, 2015.

The charge, under Section 420 of the Penal Code, provides for a jail term of 10 years, whipping and a possible fine upon conviction.

Meanwhile, Syed Mohammad Faiz pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Nor Azizah Aling to abetting Muhammad Adam Rao to commit the offences at the same place and date.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Shahrizzat Amadan appeared for the prosecution while counsel Hisham Ramdzan represented the duo. — Bernama
