MIRI: The Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development has provided a special allocation of RM2 million to Sibuti, Lambir, Piasau and Marudi constituencies to purchase Musang King durian seedlings.

Its minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas in revealing this Saturday said the initiative is part of the ministry’s effort to ensure the lives and income of people in the rural areas continue to improve.

“Our ministry will distribute RM500,000 to Sibuti parliamentary constituency for the purchase of Musang King durian seedlings. Likewise, Lambir, Piasau and Marudi state constituencies will also receive the same amount of money,” Uggah in his officiating speech during the second edition of Mardi Gras Lambir here earlier this morning.

Uggah urged parliamentarian and assemblymen for the four areas to discuss with their constituents on various agricultural activities, including the plantation of durian in their area.

He also expressed his optimism that Musang King durian farmers and their products will have a brighter future, particularly in terms of their income.

“Sarawak created history last year as we managed to export 16 tonnes of raw durian paste to China. This shows the future of our durian-based products is bright.

“Gradually, this will also help us to eradicate poverty and address the issue of income disparity between urban and rural communities,” he added.
