MIRI: The Orang Ulu community, especially youths were urged to be more united in their struggles to become a developed and progressive group.

Apart from that, they must continue to help and work closely with one another for common good.

Orang Ulu Sarawak Youth Association (Yousa) president Spanski Steven made this call, adding that a real paradigm shift is needed on many levels to ensure members of the community progress further.

“I urge all Orang Ulu youths to get rid of their ego and political differences to unite for the well-being and progress of our community,” he said here yesterday.

“Prove that we are able to do the best for our community . Our struggle must be the right one, not to hurt others.

“Although we are a minority, we are able to bring our voice to higher authorities through the right way,” Spanski added.

He said active involvement and participation of youths in development activities will help shape the future of Sarawak and the nation.

“We cannot just rely on the elders to bring our community forward.

we continue to depend on them, what are we to do when they are gone?” he lamented.

Spanski also appealed to the elders to guide the younger generation in helming and enhancing the position of Orang Ulu community in society.

“As the younger generation of the Orang Ulu community comprising Kayans, Kenyahs, Bisayas, Kelabits, Penans, Lun Bawangs, Lakiputs, Berawans and Sabans, our struggle ought to continue,” he concluded.
