KUCHING: The Kuching Inter-Cultural Mooncake Festival will return for its 17th instalment from Sept 17-24 at the Carpenter Street here.

The annual event is hosted by the Federation of Kuching Division Community Associations and the Old Market Community Association, said the organiser through a press release yesterday.

One of the festival highlights is the Lantern-making Competition to be held at Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall on Sept 17 and each entry must be displayed for  eight days which is the duration of the celebration for public viewing and appreciation.

This competition is open to all nationalities, associations and schools and participants can be either individuals or groups.

“We have seen some really creative lanterns in the past and we hope to see more designs this year as the competition is getting stiffer. We are proud that we have had participants from all races, ages and walks of life in the past and we sincerely hope this trend continues,” added the organiser.

Closing date for registration is Sept 15 and participants must submit the lanterns to the Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall before 7pm on Sept 17 and entries will be reviewed on the same day at 8pm.

The results will be announced and awards presented on the night of Sept 24 at the event main stage (Yang Chun Tai).
