KAPIT: The Kapit Foochow Association presented gifts and angpows to 69 senior members during its 90th anniversary celebration on Friday.

The seniors aged 70 and over included some of the association’s founding members.

Kapit Foochow Association advisor Ling Kok Chong was the main sponsor of the angpows.

With over 550 members, the association is the largest Chinese association here.

Some 700 Foochows attended the celebration dinner including members from the Federation of Foochow Associations Malaysia, Federation of Foochow Associations Sarawak, Limbang Foochow Association, and Sarikei Foochow Association.

The first batch of Foochow migrants here planted pepper and rubber in the Selirik and Sungai Sesibau areas.

They gradually moved to town and became part of the business community.
