Lions Club to hold Mid-Autumn charity do with Coco Cabana

MIRI: Lions Club of Batu Niah is collaborating with Coco Cabana to hold Mid-Autumn Festival charity events on Sept 22 from 2.30pm to 10pm at Miri Marina Coco Cabana. The activities will include Mid-Autumn Charity Fun Walk, colouring contest, lantern designing contest, lion dance performances, Chinese orchestra, 12-festive drum, singing and dancing performances, and fire prevention and demonstration by Fire and Rescue Department Zone 6 Miri.

“We are happy to share this festive occasion with family, friends, fellow Sarawakians and visitors” said organising chairwoman Alice Yong in a press release yesterday.

The Mid-Autumn Charity Fun Walk scheduled for 7pm is open to all. The entry fee is RM10 for adults and RM5 for children 12 years old and below. Family teams of parents and two children need only pay RM25. Each participant will be given a LED lantern for the walk.

Children colouring contest will be divided into Group A (9 to 12 years old) and  Group B (6 to 8 years old). Entry fee is RM5 per child. Prizes will be RM80, RM30 and RM10 for the top three
placing with a trophy and certificate.

Participants are advised be at Coco Cabana punctually and bring their own colouring kit. Paper will be provided by the organiser. The contest will run from 3pm to 5pm with prize giving at 6pm

Registration forms are available at Coco Cabana’s office or download from Lions Club of Batu Niah’s Facebook page. Closing date is Sept 17.

Another contest in designing lanterns is divided into Category A for large lanterns (not more than 4ft height x 8ft width) and Category B for small lanterns (more than 2ft height x 3ft width).

The contest is open to all Malaysians and registration fees are RM50 per team/individual for Category A and RM20 per team/individual for Category B.

The best lantern in Category A will win RM800 while the first and second runner-up will get RM500 and RM300 respectively. In Category B, top three winners will receive RM300, RM200 and RM100 respectively.

Registration forms are available at Coco Cabana office or contact 016-878 2880 (Yong). The closing date is Sept 7 at 12pm.

All lanterns must be submitted to Coco Cabana’s office on or before Sept 20 at 5pm. Failure to submit lanterns on time will automatically disqualify the contestant.

All proceeds will be donated to charity, according to Alice.
