MIRI: Residents of Kampung Tunku Abdul Rahman in Lambir will be able to heave a sigh of relief soon because Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has agreed to consider the expansion of their village to accommodate its growing population.

Uggah said it had been a challenge for the villagers to ensure sufficient space for their children to build their own house considering that the village is located very near to town.

“The state government is determined to assist the people to solve problems relating to increased population, including housing and unemployment.

“As we move on, we must make sure our second and third generations will also receive assistance which allows them to lead a comfortable life, even better than they are in today. I will convey the hope of villagers of Kampung Tunku Abdul Rahman in regards to the village expansion to the chief minister for this issue to be considered and deeply looked into,” said Uggah when officiating at the Mardi Gras Lambir here yesterday.

Uggah also expressed his commitment to solve problems in relation to the appointment of village heads (tuai rumah) and community leaders in the area.

“I had discussed with the Resident on this issue and we will speed up efforts to solve it. We must solve this problem so that the village security and development committees can continue with their tasks and so on,” he said.

Uggah reminded the residents to be wary of the weather especially when it rains which usually resulted in flooding.

“For this, I will work together with Miri mayor to look at how we can assist in times of flood.”

Uggah emphasised the GPS-led Sarawak government has always been willing to take proactive measures to solve problems faced by the people.

“Ultimately, all we want is to ensure problems faced by our people can be solved and the rights of Sarawak be protected. We must safeguard our valuable assets and make sure our beloved state will always be in the hands of the righteous Sarawakians forever,” he added.
