MIRI: A man arrested Sunday in connection with a murder three years ago was placed under a seven-day remand until Aug 27 to enable further police investigation.

The order was issued yesterday by lower court registrar Brian Bryan Mason following an application by investigating officer ASP Lee Chee Keat under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The 39-year-old suspect from Kampung Lusut in Taman Tunku, was intoxicated when he was handed over to police by members of the public, is suspected to have caused the death of 44-year-old Minggu Nangai in 2015.

A police report lodged by Minggu’s wife on June 11 that year stated that on May 29 around 8pm, she was with her husband and their 10-year-old child when a man known to them showed up.

The man allegedly beat her husband using a broomstick before taking him out for a drinking session.

The wife subsequently brought her child to her mother-in-law’s house nearby before returning home around 2.30am the next day, where she found her husband dead in front of their doorstep.

Police have classified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
