Alan Ling sworn in as senator

Alan taking his oath as a senator of the Dewan Negara today.

MIRI: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak Secretary Alan Ling, 35 has been sworn in as a senator of the Dewan Negara in Kuala Lumpur today.

The Dewan Negara, which is the upper house of the Parliament, shall consists of 70 senators when fully filled up. The senate is currently dominated by Barisan Nasional.

Alan is a lawyer by profession and also the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak secretary and DAP National Youth Wing assistant secretary-general. He is also a former Piasau assemblyman.

He became the first from Sarawak under the new Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government to be recommended for the post.

Alan was accompanied by his wife Florence Lau, father TK Ling, comrades and business partners during the ceremony today. He was sworn in alongside 11 others new senators.

Meanwhile, DAP Miri members welcomed his appointment and thanked Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for entrusting a DAP representative from Sarawak to be a senator.

“We are proud of Alan and lastly he also can be in the upper senate to bring up Sarawak voices, said a local DAP member Peter Hii.
