KUALA LUMPUR: Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad said he will not be withdrawing his defamation suit against Gerakan Muslimah Malaysia chairman Wan Asshima Kamaruddin over the latter’s accusation that he and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa had organised the largest gay festival in the federal capital.
Khalid said Wan Asshima did not issue any apology over the statement and only apologised for tarnishing his name.
“I do not see it as a sincere apology, she shows no remorse for going overboard and without the facts. She is the one who is emotional but is accusing that I am emotional, I am just exercising my rights when people defame me.
“The Pakatan Harapan (PH) government respects freedom of expression but those who want to speak out must act responsibly. If one issues statements to provoke others, the person must be prepared to face the consequences,” he told a media conference after attending the ‘Jalur Gemilang’ (National Flag) handing over ceremony in conjunction with the National Day celebration at the Dang Wangi police station here yesterday.
The NGO chairman had allegedly made the accusation in a video clip uploaded on her Facebook but later took it down,
Following that Zulhazmi Shariff and Hisham Fauzi, the special function officers of the two ministers respectively, lodged police reports at the Dang Wangi police station to call the police to investigate her under Section 505 of the Penal Code (statements conducing to public mischief). — Bernama
