Forest and land fires in HSS donot affect haze

KANDANGAN, S Kalimantan: Forest and land fires in eight sub-districts in the South Hulu Sungai (HSS) District in the dry season shows an increase in intensity with the area of land burning reaching hundreds of hectares, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

Head of the district Disaster Mitigation and the Nation Unity and Politics (PB Kesbangpol) Agency Efran in Kandangan, Tuesday (28/8), said until now the fires have not caused smoke haze. Thanks to the synergy of many parties the hotspots were immediately extinguished when observed.

“The extinction process was also carried out by teams from the agency assisted by various parties, such as the TNI and Polri, the private sector and the surrounding community,” he said.

To prevent forest and land fire from occurring, the agency has conducted coordination meetings with all relevant parties who have also conducted socialization to the community, including issuing a fire prevention circular in the district.

The head of the Rehabilitation and Construction Logistics Emergency Division of the agency Nur Abdi said that based on temporary data from April to August 2018 the area of burned land had reached hundreds of hectares.

The area of land burned is in Kandangan Subdistrict, South Daha, North Daha, West Daha, Loksado, Padang Batung, Angkinang and Sungai Raya.

The steps taken were among others, the source of the existing fire was immediately extinguished, continued monitoring of the hotspot and the team continued to patrol the field.

“For the put out, we immediately went down to the field with the TNI and Polri, BPK, PT SAM, PT AGM and the surrounding residents,” he said.
