KUALA LUMPUR: The Pakatan Harapan (PH) will retain the Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) 2.0 and open it to more suppliers, who will provide their products to the chain.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the ministry would continue to ensure that the chain really benefits the people by providing goods that are cheaper than those sold in other outlets.

“We are not obsessed about branding, but the reason for retaining KR1M is to provide goods which are priced competitively and cheaply for the people,” he said during the oral question-and-answer session at the Senate sitting yesterday.

Saifuddin was answering a supplementary question from Senator Datuk Suhaimi Abdullah, who wanted to know KR1M’s status after the change of government from Barisan Nasional to PH.

Saifuddin said at present, there are 51 KR1M 2.0 outlets operating throughout the country. — Bernama
