Man charged with receiving stolen water meters

SIBU: A man was charged in court here yesterday with five counts of receiving stolen goods and illegally handling secondhand goods, involving stolen water meters.

No plea was recorded from Wong Dong Seng, 52, who faces four charges under Section 411 of the Penal Code which provides up to five years’ jail or a fine, or both upon conviction.

The fifth charge was filed under Section 6 of the Second-Hand Dealers Act 1946 which carries up to five years’ jail or a fine not exceeding RM20,000, or both upon conviction.

Wong is accused of dishonestly retaining four stolen water meters belonging to four different owners on Aug 21 at 2.15pm at a house in Rejang Park.

He is also accused of dealing with second-hand goods without a valid licence at the same time and place on the same day.

Subordinate Court Sibu assistant registrar Romme Ahmad Zaidi released him on a bail of RM1,500 for each charge with two local sureties, and fixed Sept 7 for further mention.
