Peninsula pair busted for alleged illegal money-lending activities

Items seized from the suspects following their arrest on suspicion of conducting illegal money-lending activities.

MIRI: Police arrested two men from Selangor on suspicion of carrying out illegal money-lending activities in the city on Wednesday.

The pair, aged 22 and 33, was caught at the parking area in front of the Rural Transformation Centre in Bekenu, said district police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah.

“A police team from the district Commercial Crime Investigation Division detained two men in a pickup truck suspected of running a money-lending business without a
valid licence,” he said when confirming the arrests yesterday.

Lim said police also seized various items from the suspects including 750 business cards, seven debit cards from different banks in the country, three mobile phones, cash amounting to RM313, as well as the pickup truck.

The two suspects have been placed in the lockup pending further investigation.
