KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Minister at the Federal Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC), Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis, herself an electrical engineer by profession, welcomed the initiative by Renewable Energy Association of Sabah (REASabah) to further promote the development of clean green technologies in the electricity supply industry. She recently met with REASabah, led by its chairman, Datuk Ir. Peter Lajumin.

The informal meeting allowed free exchange of ideas with a view to further enhance the role of renewable energy in Sabah, particularly in rural electrification. REASabah informed the deputy minister of the vast renewable energy resources available in Sabah like solar, mini hydro, biomass and biogas. Exploiting and developing these resources to provide green electricity would go a long way towards the realisation of the federal government’s target to have renewable energy as 20% of the nation’s power generation mix by the year 2023. REASabah is always ready to offer suggestions and contribute ideas with regard to policies and mechanisms to achieve this.

REASabah, which was formed in 2015, provides a platform for renewable energy stakeholders in Sabah, ranging from developers, consultants, operators, academics and government agencies, to share a platform to discuss and find solutions to the various issues and challenges faced by the industry.
