Rafting Challenge to highlight Selangau Festival

SIBU: The upcoming Selangau Festival 2018 will again feature its signature event – the Rafting Challenge, which is expected to draw large crowds.

Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai said Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan will flag off the Rafting Challenge on the morning of Sept 9.

“This time around, Selangau Festival will still feature Rafting Challenge as its signature event. It is also expected to attract a big crowd to Selangau bazaar that morning,” he said when contacted yesterday on the festival.

The three-day Selangau Festival 2018 runs from Sept 7 till 9, parading a gamut of colourful activities.

Sempurai said to spruce up the festival, the Strongman Challenge has been lined up on Sept 8 to attract participants from throughout Sarawak and Sabah.

Other activities lined up for the three-day event included ‘Ngajat and Betaboh’, karaoke competition, ‘Ratu Kebaya’, ‘poco poco’ and remote control boat race among others.

He mentioned that Tamin assemblyman Christoper Gira Sambang will officiate at the opening on Sept 7, while Works Minister Baru Bian, who is also Selangau MP and Ba Kelalan state assemblyman will close the festival on Sept 9.

“I urge all the people from Mukah, Dalat, Bintulu, Sarikei, Kanowit and Sibu to come to check out this exciting Pesta Selangau,” Sempurai urges.
