KUCHING: The 11th Battalion of General Operations Force (GOF) foiled an attempt to smuggle 120 bundles of clothes to Indonesia via the border here.

Its commanding officer Supt Rosdi Inai said acting on public tip-off and surveillance works, police conducted the operation along the illegal route, some 200m from the Indonesia border near Kampung Sebobok, Stass, Bau yesterday.

“Police arrested three local men aged between 20 and 40 years old, after they failed to provide valid documentations.

“We also seized two lorries, used to carry the said 120 bundles of smuggled clothes worth an estimate of RM50,000. The overall seizure is worth (about) RM190,000, including the lorries,” he told reporters at the GOF headquarters today.

The suspects and seized goods have been handed over to the Royal Malaysian Customs Department for further action.

Rosdi also added that the suspects were brought to court for remand application, in order to facilitate investigation under Customs Act 1967.
