MIRI: It is necessary to upgrade facilities for remote control boat race here to develop the sport as an international tourism event, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin said.

He was particularly referring to the facilities currently available in Senadin, which were only temporary and needed comprehensive upgrading works.

“Remote control boat race has the potential to attract participants from the country and abroad.

“Hence, we must upgrade the facility for this sporting event if we want more foreign participants to come here.

“I do hope that this race will continue to be developed here,” he told The Borneo Post when met during a remote control
boat race organised by Miri Remote Control Boat Club here yesterday.

The race, which had entered its sixth year, attracted more than 100 participants this year including some from Brunei Darussalam, Labuan, Kuching, Sibu and Bintulu.

“What is interesting about these boats is that the engine is modified and installed here, indirectly it helps to enhance knowledge of participants in the field of remote control technology,” he added.
