Experienced hands, fresh talent among Sukma-bound shooters

KUCHING: Sarawak will field a blend of new faces and old hands in the shooting competition of the 19th Malaysia Games (Sukma XIX) in Perak at Amanjaya Shooting Range, Chepor from Sept 15 to 21.

The state shooters, who have been training at the Sarawak Shooting Range in Petra Jaya for the past few months, aim to give a strong challenge to the major contenders such as Perak, defending champion Selangor, Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur.

They are entered for both individual and team events namely 25m Standard Pistol, 25m Sports Pistol, 10m Air Pistol, 10m Air Rifle, 50m Rifle Prone and 50m Rifle 3 Position.

Among the seniors is David Teo Siew Keng who won the men’s 50m Rifle Prone gold and a bronze in the 10m Air Rifle event at the 2016 Sukma in Kuching.

Senior shooters in the women’s team include Delphine Chung Qi, Stephanie Sim Shu Ming and Beatrice Thiedora who won in the 10m Air Pistol team gold in the 2016 Sukma.

Other members of the men’s are Heffsaren Henry, Lim Hong Yang, Tedules Baron, Sim Dong Hao, Radzinki Mathew Ben, Richardson Lises, Ahmad Hairul Nizam Ahmad Rodzli, Joseph Chai, Muhammad Nurzulfiqar Mohd Zulkifli, Ryan Chang Kai Boon, Alferon Bladae, David Teo Siew Keng and Denilson Felix Letar.

The women’s team include Stephanie Sim Shu Ming, Beatrice Thieadora Lises, Delphine Chung Qi, Siti Nurzulaikha Mohd Zulkifli, Arshielda Hanggi Auther Hardy, Florence Angelina Frederick, Selina Sim Shu Siang, Siti Nuraisya Mazlan, Evelyn Jihon Issac, Lim Yee Qi, Erica Heather Chai, Michell Rinyin and Daphanie Adrienne Steven.

The assistant chef-de-mission (ACDM) for shooting is Sunny Si Poh Heng while the team manager is Neil Michael Parker and the coach is Hwang Iknwo from South Korea.

The shooting teams will leave for Perak on Sept 13 and will start their practice session at the competition venue on the next day.
