SEREMBAN: A single mother, who is also the owner of property developer Juta Kelulut Global Sdn Bhd, was sentenced to 12 months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for cheating a man in a housing project construction.
Magistrate Mahyun Yusof handed down the sentence on Siti Norbahiyah Yahya, 44, who has five children, after she pleaded guilty to three counts of cheating the man.
On all the three counts, Siti Norbahiyah was charged with cheating Mohd Nazmi Nazer by issuing him three cheques, one for RM15,000 and the other two cheques for RM17,500 each, as payments and then cancelled them.All the offences were committed in Nilai on March 31, April 31 and May 31,2017.
Siti Norbahiyah, also known as “Datuk Anggun” was charged under Section 417 of the Penal Code, which provides an imprisonment for up to five years, or fine, or both, upon conviction.
Mahyun sentenced her to 11 months’ jail for the first charge and 12 months’ jail each for the second and third count, to be served concurrently from the date of her arrest on Sept 27, 2017.
In mitigation, her lawyer, Noor Azizi Abdull Aziz, said her client’s children were all studying at public institutions of higher learning and that she regretted her action and asked to be given a second chance.
