Recyclables collector jailed for stealing chocolates

MIRI: The Magistrates’ Court here yesterday sentenced a collector of used boxes and aluminium cans to two weeks’ jail for stealing five bars of chocolate from a supermarket with two accomplices.

Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa convicted Abdul Aziz Saperi, 27, from Taman Tunku on his own guilty plea.

Zuraini also set Oct 3 to hear the probationary report of second accused Yusri Abdullah, 19, from Sungai Baong, who also pleaded guilty to the same charge.

Yusri was released on RM1,000 bail with his parents as sureties.

Both Abdul Aziz and Yusri were charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code.

The Section provides for up to 10 years in prison and a fine.

They stole the chocolates worth RM86.10 together with another person still at large on Sunday (Sept 2) at 7pm from the supermarket at Pelita Commercial Centre.

ASP Mary Ong prosecuted the case, while both accused were not represented by counsel.
