PAKAN: Gerempong Raban Pakan (GRP) held an educational programme in collaboration with Universiti Malaya Dayak Graduates Alumni Association (Padum) and SMK Pakan at the school hall recently.

GRP president Jerenang Jawa said the programme aimed to help students prepare for their public examinations.

He said GRP is always committed to help improve the socioeconomic status of locals and believes education is the best way to achieve the aspiration.

Themed ‘Beyond SPM, Yes I Can’, the programme involved 319 students, who will sit for their Form 3 Assessment (PT3) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) this year.

“We hope SMK Pakan will produce better PT3 and SPM results this year compared to 2017 and, of course, have more straight-A achievers,” said Jerenang.

He added GRP hopes to hold a similar programme next year and would try to involve parents for greater impact.

Julau member of parliament Larry Sng, who opened the programme, called on students to study hard to excel in their studies.

To encourage local students to pursue tertiary education, he said the RM1 million Larry Sng Education Fund would be extended to the area.
