MIRI: A magistrate’s court here yesterday fined a woman RM2,000 in default three months’ jail for injuring another woman.

Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa convicted Elizabeth Lahung Jau on her own guilty plea to a charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

Elizabeth, from Uma Bawang, Long Lama, injured Annur Daud, 30, at 7.03pm on July 28 along a five-footway outside a restaurant at Marina Phase 2. When the case was first mentioned, Elizabeth had claimed trial, however during case management she changed her plea.

In an unrelated case, Zuraini fined a man RM6,500 in default three months’ jail for driving under the influence of alcohol. Tonie Ngau was charged under Section 44 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He had driven a four-wheel drive vehicle while his blood alcohol level exceeded the permitted limit at 7pm on Dec 13, 2016, at KM15 Jalan Miri-Bintulu. Insp Mohd Khairi Mohd Noor prosecuted the case.
