Chinese airlines representatives on familiarisation trip to Miri, Kuching

MIRI: Representatives of airline companies from China arrived here Saturday for a business familiarisation trip aimed at establishing direct flights to Sarawak.

The four-day trip from Sept 8-11 is hosted by Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), and covers Miri and Kuching.

The visitors comprise China Sourthern Airlines general manager (Malaysia) Wang Xu, Air China general manager (Malaysia) Yin Jianmin, and Xiamen Airline general manager (Malaysia) Guo Yuan.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin was on hand to welcome them with a dinner at Imperial Hotel.

Also present were Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) general manager of airlines marketing Mohamed Sallauddin, MAHB route development manager Zainuddin Mohamed, Miri Airport manager Zainal Abidin Harun, Shin Yang Group of Companies founder and executive chairman Tan Sri Datuk Ling Chiong Ho, STB corporate services director Mary Wan Mering, and Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) president Lee Khoi Yun.

According to Lee, the familiarisation trip was arranged following his courtesy visit to the Kuala Lumpur offices of the airlines on Aug 2.

While here, he said the group is scheduled to visit Miri Crocodile Farm, Niah National Park, Coco Cabana and Tusan Beach.

They will then head to Kuching where they will visit Semenggoh Wildlife Centre and Sarawak Culture Village.
