MIRI: Federation of Miri Division Chinese Associations hopes the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government will bring a new chapter to the country and new hopes to the people.

Like the others, president of the federation, Hii Teck Yun, said the Chinese community here really hoped that PH would be able to bring the country out of the current financial crisis, thus generating more incomes and further accelerate the country’s growth with vibrant economic activities.

“We hope the new PH federal government will be able to materialise the promises that they made to the people such as issues close to the heart of the Chinese community like getting federal recognition for Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) and the proposal of vision school,” he stated when officiating at the annual general meeting (AGM) of the federation at Imperial Hotel here yesterday.

At the same time, Hii urged members of the federation to stay united so that the federation could voice out their problems or interests at both the state and federal level.

“I strongly believe that only with unity, the Federation of Miri Division Chinese Associations will be able to record greater achievements in the future.”

On the federation’s commercial complex project, he updated the members that they were calling for tenders for the RM200-million project.

He said the project is a symbol of unity and solidarity of various Chinese associations throughout the division.

“We wanted to have such a project for many years. Hopefully, this project can be carried out soon.”

As the project means a lot to the members, he gave a commitment that the complex building committee would ensure the project is implemented with high transparency. The commercial project, which comes with a green concept comprising apartments, small office home office (Soho) and shoplots, will be built on a four-and-a-half-acre land at Jalan Jee Foh here.

The complex will also house eight tenants – Lau Clan Association of Miri, Tian Clan Association of Miri, Miri Musical Society, Miri Rainbow Chorus Society, Miri Medicine Association, Miri Civil Engineering Association, KL Brilliant Eng Construction Sdn Bhd and Lung Hiung Wong Association.

The project, he said, is set to change the façade of the area from a largely residential area to a modern living, business, leisure and recreational centre in line with Miri’s status as a resort city.

“This complex will be a new landmark for the city and the pride of the Chinese community.”

Thus, he is looking forward to the implementation of the project to provide business and employment opportunities to the local community, stimulating the socio-economic development of Miri.
