MIRI: Villagers here are urged to form co-operative society as a platform for them to venture into large-scale integrated farming including Kelulut and herbs cultivation.
Assistant Minister for Women, Family and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus said through such a society, the villagers can work together to provide goods and services to its members and go into large-scale farming which could provide better returns to its members.
“Through a co-operative, villagers can be more productive and earn more income through large-scale farming,” the Bekenu assemblywoman said when leading Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Bekenu Women members to visit an integrated farm belonging to Ketua Kaum Sawal Mawang in Kampung Selanyau near here yesterday.
Present were political secretary to the chief minister Sarkawi Suhaili, PBB Bekenu women chief Kadijah Shiekh Kassim, KK Wan Fauzi and PBB Bekenu Women committee members.
According to Rosey, KK Sawal is a good example of a visionary villager who really goes for integrated farming including planting fruits, vegetables, herbs and rearing Kelulut.
She urged PBB Bekenu Women members to emulate the innovative spirit of Sawal in generating income for their families and improving their socio-economic status.
They could also focus on cottage industry in their respective villages and longhouses.
