KUCHING: The Federation of Kuching Division Community Associations and Kuching Old Market Community Association will hold a Battle of the Bands competition for garage bands, church bands and professional and semi-professional bands here.
A press release yesterday said the competition held for the first time will be at the Hokkien Association Opera Hall, Wayang Street with the grand final slated for Sept 24.
The band competition is one of the activities planned as part of the Inter-cultural Mooncake Festival celebration .
Youth and Sports Assistant Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who is also the sponsor for this event, is expected to attend the final.
All participating bands must have a minimum of four members and are required to play three songs each. One of the three songs must be from a playlist provided by the organisers.
Bands will be judged on presentation, melody, appearance, stage presence and originality. Entrance is free.
The first prize winner will take home RM2,000 while second place offers RM1,000 and the third place winner will get RM500. The top three winners will also receive a trophy and certificate each.
There are also three consolation prizes worth RM200 each and a certificate.
