Agong attends Trooping the Colour ceremony

PUTRAJAYA: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V attended the Trooping the Colour ceremony at Dataran Pahlawan Negara here yesterday.

The ceremonial pledge of allegiance by the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) to His Majesty as the Supreme Commander of MAF was held in conjunction with the official birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on last Sunday.

Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Deputy Defence Minister Liew Chin Tong, Army chief General Datuk Seri Ahmad Hasbullah Mohd Nawawi and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

Upon the King’s arrival at 10.55 am, the national anthem was played with a 21-gun salute fired by a team from the 14th Battery, Royal Artillery Regiment led by Major Mohd Asri Che Wil.

At the same time, five MAF helicopters bearing the Malaysian, MAF, Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and Army flags performed a flypast overhead which was led by Major Narul Nizam Ismail.

His Majesty then went up the special dais to take the royal salute from the guard of honour mounted by 28 officers and 550 members of other ranks from the three branches of MAF, led by commanding officer of the first battalion, Royal Malay Regiment Lt-Col Mohd Radzi Othman.

Accompanying the march-past was a medley of patriotic songs played by the combined armed forces central bands, led by Major Muhammad Nor Azizan Yahya.

The Trooping the Colour of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong followed in full military ceremony in slow and quick march tempo.

The ceremony ended with three shouts of “Daulat Tuanku” by the guard of honour and the recital of prayers.

Before leaving the venue, Sultan Muhammad V once again received a salute from the guard of honour and a flypast by the five MAF aircrafts to the rendition of Negaraku.

The Trooping the Colour is a demonstration of respect, honour and ceremonial pledge of allegiance by the three services of the armed forces to the King and the country. — Bernama
