MIRI: A group of 44 retired police officers and their spouses will converge here for a special reunion, from Sept 21 to 24.

Miri Ex-Police Association chairman Han Hipni said those in the group include a former Inspector-General of Police, a former Deputy Inspector-General of Police, a former Bukit Aman Management Department director, and a number of senior retired police officers.

“They were all members of Squad 6/71 from the police college in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor who graduated as Inspectors on Sept 23, 1972,” he told reporters here yesterday.

According to Han, Squad 6/71 was a very unique batch as it was able to ‘produce’ an IGP, Deputy IGP and federal department director who all served in their respective positions at the same time.

“I am one of the squad members, and we can proudly say that no other squad was as good as us,” he enthused.

On the reunion, Han said it is being organised for the seventh time, and coincides with the anniversary of the squad’s graduation from the police college.

“We chose Miri for our reunion in conjunction with Visit Miri Year, and we want to work together with Miri City Council to promote the city,” he added.
