KUCHING: An overturned petrol tanker caused the temporary closure of the Kuching-Serian road yesterday.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak assistant operations director
Tiong Ling Hii said the tanker overturned after it hit the median divider near the Siburan Fire Station at 1.31pm, blocking the road, and leaving a minor spill.

“The area has been cordoned off, causing traffic congestion, whereby the route heading to Kuching from Serian has been reduced to one lane of traffic, while the opposite route was closed for clean-up operations by the firefighters,” he said when contacted.

A team of eight firefighters from the Siburan Fire Station was deployed to the scene.

The extensive work required firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya Fire Station to assist as well.

Tiong said the tanker driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The road reopened around 5pm after the tanker was moved from the scene.
