PUTRAJAYA: The Youth and Sports Ministry is collaborating  with the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in organising a series of monthly public debates  known as ‘Re:Action – Youth Engaged’ , which will kick-start at the university next week.

Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the public debate series was aimed at  improving the culture of critical thinking, debating, public speaking and the quality of English among  young graduates and undergraduates in the country.

Syed Saddiq said the “Youth Engaged” monthly debate series was modeled after the Cambridge Union and Oxford Union which had weekly debate sessions on important issues no matter how sensitive they were.

“The monthly debate series issues will change every time according to the hottest topic of the month,”he told a news conference at his ministry here yesterday.

He said ‘Re:Action – Youth Engaged’ would be launched by IIUM Rector Prof Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak on Sept 18 with the inaugural debate entitled ‘Repealing The Anti-Fake News Is A Mistake’.

Syed Saddiq said every month two senior speakers and two junior speakers would be selected online and those interested can send a three-minute video on the selected topic. — Bernama
