KUCHING: Police arrested two individuals for suspected drug trafficking and seized nearly 300 grammes of Syabu during a recent operation.

Padawan deputy police chief DSP Merbin Lisa said the suspects, a man and a woman, were nabbed following a search carried out at a house in Jalan Stephen Yong, here on Tuesday.

“During the search, we confiscated 12 plastic packets of various sizes containing suspected Syabu, weighing about 296 grammes. The suspects are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction,” he said yesterday.

Both were placed on a seven-day remand since Tuesday for further investigation, he added. Apart from the drugs – estimated to be worth RM45,000 – police also seized a car and cash amounting to RM5,294 from the suspects during the operation.
