Elderly man reported missing found safe

MIRI: An elderly man from Rh Brauh, Sg Entulang in Bakong, Baram near here, who was reported missing on Thursday was found safe at Sg Antu yesterday.

Search and Rescue (SAR) operation commander Terry Robson who is also Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station chief, said 88-year-old Jandah Luang was found by the SAR team at 8.30am, about 5 kilometres from the longhouse, the last place he was seen on Thursday.

On Thursday, two personnel from Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station led by senior fire officer Rorudi Umas were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 7.30pm.

A SAR operation was immediately launched focusing in areas near the longhouse and farm but the rescuers failed to locate him. The initial operation was called off at 9.45pm.

Yesterday, 13 personnel from the fire station were involved in the second day of the operation which commenced at 6.30am.

“Members of Entulang Volunteer Firefighting Unit, who also participated in the operation, found the victim 5 kilometres from the longhouse at Sungai Antu,” disclosed Terry.

It is learnt that the man had left the longhouse to fish at a nearby river at 1pm on Thursday but failed to return home since.

The victim’s family began searching for the victim at 5pm after they  failed to locate him.

“The victim had reportedly spent the night in the farm hut before he was found by the SAR team.

“He was sent to a nearby clinic at Bekenu junction by Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team from Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station for further examination,” Terry added.
