KOTA KINABALU: The federal government will be working to restore the political position of Sabah and Sarawak as well as returning the position of both states as one of the three regions to form Malaysia in the Federal Constitution.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said apart from political equality, promises on economic and social rights made to the people in Sabah and Sarawak would not be forgotten by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government as soon as the country’s economy recovers.

“The people of Sabah and Sarawak will be confident with the unity vision of PH which encompasses all races and religions, as well as each territory to strengthen the spirit of Malaysia as a democratic country respecting rule of law while celebrating diversity and inclusiveness.”

“Only with political, social and economic equality for Sabah and Sarawak can we conquer the politics of the opposition propagating ethnic chauvinism, racial dominance, religious extremism as well as movements to create ambiguity and hatred, “Lim said in a statement yesterday.

Apart from that, Lim who is DAP secretary-general said Sabah and Sarawak would be better off under the PH government after the economic rationalisation needed to save Malaysia’s economy from the financial scandals of Barisan Nasional.

He believed Malaysians understand the new government is struggling to improve the financial situation following the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal which caused the federal government to be in debts exceeding RM1 trillion.
