MIRI: Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants allocated by the Sarawak government greatly help the rural community.
Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said the various rural recipients such as organisations and village security and development committees (JKKK) need such assistance for development and facilities in their longhouses and villages.
“MRP grant is one way for the government to help and reach out to the community regardless of political background,” Dennis told The Borneo Post after presenting MRP grants yesterday.
Present was PBB Telang Usan youth chief councillor Dominic Nyurang.
According to Dennis, in his constituency, there are about 80 longhouses and villages, with each having seven to eight organisations, which need grants for their development and activities, citing the JKKK, women bureau, youths, parent-teacher association, Rela, church and school among them.
He said these organisations request funds for upgrading of halls, schools, drainage and social and welfare jactivities.
Apart from these villages and organisations, he said the Orang Ulu community in Miri also sought grants from him, which he had to give to be fair.
Dennis thanked Chief Minister Datuk Patingi Abang Johari Tun Openg for allocating such funds to GPS representatives.
“We as ‘wakil rakyat’ (elected representatives) hope that the people will appreciate our Chief Minister and the Sarawak government for such assistance,” he added.
